Operations launched in West Kurdistan by the People's Defence Forces (YPG) in the Til Hemis area on 26 December are continuing. Six more villages have come under the control of the YPG. Since the operations began at the request of local people, a total of 17 villages have been liberated from the clutches of armed groups linked to Al Qaeda.
On the fourth day of operations there have been fierce clashes between the YPG and ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham) groups. Many members of the ISIS groups have been killed. Two of the gang members killed have been named by the YPG as Ebo Eli El-Ensari and Ebo Silêman Hicêra.
The YPG has announced that in its 4-day operation it has taken over control of 17 villages in the Til Hemis and Til Berek area. The latest villages to be liberated are El Hilo, El Werdiyê, Esbih and Recim El-Xenoş
The YPG’s siege of Til Hemis is continuing. It is reported that the Kurdish military forces approaching from the direction of Til Koçer are within 3 kilometres of Til Hemis. Clashes are continuing.
